King’s College Budo student Sira Nsibirwa has won a bronze medal at the 2026 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, marking another significant achievement for Uganda on the global academic stage.
Nsibirwa emerged third in the highly competitive competition, which attracted more than 1,000 outstanding student mathematicians from 46 countries.
Another King’s College Budo student, Talindeka Kiguba Jethro, also delivered an impressive performance, earning a Merit Award at the prestigious international contest.
Uganda’s delegation comprised 13 students drawn from King’s College Budo, Gayaza High School, Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Namugongo, Ndejje Senior Secondary School, and St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK).
The students earned the opportunity to represent Uganda after excelling in the Uganda Maths Contest and the Uganda National Science Olympiad, competitions organized by the Uganda Mathematical Society and the Science Olympiad Foundation Uganda, respectively.
The International Mathematics Competition brings together some of the world’s brightest young mathematicians, providing participants with an opportunity to test their analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills against peers from different countries.
The latest achievement adds to a growing list of international successes for King’s College Budo this year. Earlier, the school’s Senior Five student Ian Karlton Muyimba made history after winning a bronze medal at the 2026 International Public Speaking Competition in London, becoming the first African contestant to finish among the competition’s top three after competing against participants from 45 countries and regions.
Muyimba’s achievement, together with Nsibirwa’s success in mathematics, highlights King’s College Budo’s growing strength in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as communication disciplines, further cementing the school’s reputation as one of Uganda’s leading institutions for academic and co-curricular excellence.
